Rackspace Deploys Teams Of Specialists At SXSW 2014

With the launch of Rackspace Digital last week at the W Hotel, we introduced our team of digital specialists laser focused on content, commerce and mobile. Over the weekend, as more of SXSW 2014 came alive, Rackspace deployed additional teams of specialists on the ground to engage with event goers at festival venues inside the Austin city limits.

Inside the Austin Convention Center is the heartbeat of festival – the SXSW 2014 Trade Show, where converging industries network with festival masses. It’s the perfect place to debut the Rackspace modular interactive space, our massive new booth from which Rackspace specialists share their expertise. On the trade show’s opening day, festival goers gathered to find out what the next best thing will be from our teams of specialists.

A Melting Pot

“We are representing Rackspace Digital, our startup program, Racker Talent, our Rackspace Open Cloud Academy, Cloud Tools Marketplace and our developers at Rackspace,” explains Lyndsey Ribble, Events Planner with Rackspace. “These teams of Rackspace specialists are going to be here telling other people what they do and why they are specialists at Rackspace.”

Ribble says that SXSW is a fantastic venue for networking with Rackspace enthusiasts. “SXSW is this awesome melting pot of people from all over the world. Within [SXSW] Interactive, there are so many different groups that we reach out to – it’s one of the best ways to reach our audience.”

Startup Village

The startup ecosystem is a place where Rackspace has made a huge impact, and the Rackspace Startup Program has multiple touch sites inside Startup Village on the fourth floor of the Austin Hilton. “Here at Rackspace we started recognizing a high need for startups to get more help in a myriad of ways. We would first and foremost offer the one thing that we know best, and that is hosting,” says Adam Hansen, Manager with the Rackspace Startup Program.

Startups, what can you expect to find the Rackspace startup specialists participating in at SXSW? Hansen says, “our team of startup specialists are here at SXSW for a couple of reasons – Rackspace is supporting startups at pitch contests, including StartupBus which was held at Rackspace HQ last week, working the expo floor meeting with startups pitching their businesses, connecting with startups and accelerators that are new to the program, and handing out lots of swag.”

“We have created a great network for accelerated companies to talk and mingle with folks who can really push them forward – Mark Cuban, Guy Kawasaki, DFJ Ventures, Robert Scoble and others,” concludes Hansen.

We also caught up with Robert Scoble, Director of Customer Development with Rackspace, and a true evangelist for the startup movement. He took a few minutes around his busy schedule inside the Rackspace studio at the Startup Village to chat about what the Scobleizer is doing at SXSW.

“Why are we sitting here at the Rackspace studio at SXSW 2014 Interactive? Because we wanted to see the future. We kept scouring the halls for the best startups and some VIPs and we’ve put up 15 videos this weekend,” Scoble says.

While Scoble jokes, “What happens in Austin stays in Austin!” he shared his insight on what technology has to offer up for 2014.

“There is a lot of ‘Internet of Things’ stuff going on here,” Scoble says. “CubeSensors was just here showing off their indoor air monitoring sensors. Other companies are doing headphones with weird things … and new stuff in retail, museums and baseball parks. Lots of fun!”
