Rackspace Austin Honored For Environmental Efforts

The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce has recognized the Rackspace Austin office for excellence in the “Environment” category of the 2012 Greater Austin Business Awards.   We received the award, which was presented Thursday, August 30, for encouraging green behavior in the workplace and demonstrating commitment to environmental responsibility benefitting Rackers and the community.

The Rackspace global Green Team develops strategies and shares best practices across the operation to promote productivity and well-being.  Sustainability is a key ingredient to attracting and retaining the best talent.

Examples of our green office practices include:

  • Operating a shuttle between Austin and San Antonio to encourage fuel-economy
  • Hosting an annual Green Day
  • Being recognized as a “Founder” in the newly launched Austin Green Business Leader program and achieving “Platinum” status, the highest rating possible, for the operation of the office

Rackspace was also a finalist in the “Health and Wellness” category.

The Chamber of Commerce recognizes companies throughout the region that make Austin one of the top cities in the world to do business. This year there were over 300 companies nominated for their business excellence.  Check out the rest of the winners here.
