Racker Showcases Real-World SharePoint Deployments In New Book

Rackspace Senior SharePoint Consultant and SharePoint Server MVP Jennifer Mason knows SharePoint isn’t always easy, and each SharePoint solution requires a special recipe unto itself.

And to showcase how to create and implement SharePoint projects, Mason put together a cookbook of sorts that offers step-by-step recipes for various SharePoint solutions in real-world scenarios. In “Microsoft SharePoint 2010: Creating and Implementing Real-World Projects” (Microsoft Press, $34.99), which Mason co-authored with Christian Buckley, Brain T. Jackett and Wes Preston, each chapter highlights a different project from start to finish and how to get the most out of out-of-the-box tool. The book examines the business problem, the users, the planning, the design, the building, the configuration and the long-term governance – along with every other step that goes into a full-fledged SharePoint project.

Using real-world scenarios creates a digestible outline for any company considering or struggling with a SharePoint solution deployment. And each chapter, which follows the same formula, is peppered with diagrams and screenshots to walk users through the deployment process every step of the way.

“It’s different than anything I’ve written before,” said Mason, who joined Rackspace in February as part of the SharePoint911 acquisition. “It’s for people who have to build SharePoint projects to see the process from start to finish and understand the process that goes into building a complete, business-based SharePoint solution.”

The book dives into 10 distinct business problems with real-world SharePoint solutions, including setting up a help desk solution to track service requires; building a simple project management system; implementing a cost-effective contact management system; designing a scheduling system to manage resources; and more. The hands-on book acts as a guide to get you from A to Z with different SharePoint solutions.

Keep your eyes peeled for Mason and “Microsoft SharePoint 2010: Creating and Implementing Real-World Projects” at several upcoming SharePoint and Microsoft events, including a signing at Microsoft TechEd North America 2012, June 11 through June 14 in Orlando, and a session at SP TechCon, July 22 through July 25 in Boston.
