Oracle Now Offered On Cloud Servers

4

“Oracle images on Cloud Servers have reached end of life and are no longer being offered or supported.”

Here at The Rackspace Cloud, we are committed to providing our customers a wide variety of options when building their online presence on our cloud computing platform. In line with this commitment, we are pleased to announce the addition of Oracle images to our rich set of operating system offerings. Our customers now have a greater OS selection to choose from including Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, Fedora, Gentoo and now Oracle. We believe offering Oracle will help Enterprise businesses confirm their decision to move to a cloud hosting solution.

The Oracle images now available as an OS option when ordering Cloud Servers are:

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.4
  • Oracle Enterprise Linux JeOS 5.3

With Oracle’s strong commitment to Linux and the Linux community, they continue to support the development of Enterprise Linux solutions. As quoted on their website, “Oracle’s long-term vision is focused on continuing to enhance and extend the enterprise-class capabilities of Linux, and this vision is manifest through the many projects and code contributions that Oracle shares with the Linux community.” We are excited for the opportunity this brings to our Cloud customers.

Oracle has an extensive list of the many technical contributions they have made to the Linux community and will benefit anyone using Linux. For more information on Oracle’s free and open source contributions, visit oss.oracle.com.

Oracle also has a very active blog network where Oracle employees and users alike discuss best practices for using Oracle:

It has been a pleasure working with Oracle throughout the development process to engineer and release a product that will fulfill the needs of many customers interested in our Cloud offering. If you have questions or feedback, please submit your comments below.

Are there any plans for Oracle to have their databases or other e-business apps available on RackSpace Cloud?

David,

We do plan on offering additional Oracle images with Oracle applications pre-installed, however because some of these offerings will require licensing we are not prepared to release them at this time. We will keep everyone up to date as we finalize our plans and prepare additional releases.

Thanks,

Hello Blake,

I saw the follwoing slide in a Oracle conference where I was told I could use Weblogic on RackspaceCLoud right now.
Pls have a look at the following screenshot with “Weblogic” in the center:

Can comment on this.
– Is the screenshot a fake :-)?
– How can I get to the “Enterprise Bundles” tab?
– Was is planned but is it stopped now?

I’d appreciate your feedback, drop me an email if you can, I have some more questions regarding this.

thanks,

Frank

Hello Angela,

When Oracle runs on on your cloud servers, does it run as a virtual or physical machine. If virtual does it run on something called Oracle VM (its our VM solution similar to VMWare). Lastly, is there a document I can refer to on how to license Oracle on a Rackspace cloud. For example there is document out on the web that describes this topic for Oracle and Amazon. Tx.
