IT Hosting Specialist Ranked as Tenth Best Large Business in Texas

SAN ANTONIO – Feb. 15, 2008 – Rackspace® announced today the company has been ranked 10th in the category of Large Companies on the 2008 Best Companies to Work for in Texas list by Texas Monthly, the Texas Association of Business and The Society for Human Resource Management – Texas State Council. The program is in its third year and Rackspace has been featured all three years, steadily rising on the list.

“Rackspace’s mission is to become one of the world’s greatest service companies through our delivery of Fanatical Support®, and we believe our people are that foundation of Fanatical Support,” said Lanham Napier, president and CEO, Rackspace. “Rackspace’s people, or Rackers, is what makes this place such a great company to work for. Our people are passionate about their work, about our customers, about our community, and most importantly, about each other.”

Rackspace was acknowledged as one of the best places to work for its people-centric culture, which includes employee bonuses based upon customer loyalty; quarterly company-wide celebrations; and multiple internal awards and employee recognition programs. Based on the employee survey results, the number one thing Rackers believed important is that Rackspace actively contributes to the community through the philanthropic organization called ‘Rack Gives Back.’ Last year, Rack Gives Back supported 30 organizations with more than 1,700 volunteer hours and donations totaling more than $150,000.

“Another thing that stood out in the survey results is that Rackers feel they are given the responsibility and freedom to do their job,” said Napier.  “We’re committed to recruiting and training people that fit our value system, and then empowering them with the strength and courage to go out there and make decisions that ultimately affect our customers and business. This in turn gives Rackers a sense of worth and accomplishment that directly contributes to our growth and success.”

Managed by Best Companies Group, the selection process was based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey. The Assessment Findings Report that all participating companies receive enables them to develop plans and implement steps necessary to create an even greater workplace and continue to improve the performance of their business.

The stated goal of “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” is to raise the bar among the state’s employers and create excellence and employee satisfaction in the workplace that will attract talented people for years to come so that Texas can compete favorably in both national and global arenas. The initiative is similar to the famous FORTUNE magazine list. Rackspace was recently ranked 32nd on FORTUNE’S 11th annual “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

A new feature of the “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” in 2008 is the addition of business categories, which ranks each company against companies of similar sizes. Small businesses are those with 25-74 employees; medium-sized businesses have 75-249 employees; large businesses employ 250 and more. Rackspace has more than 1,600 employees in Texas.

Winners are featured in the February edition of Texas Monthly and can also be viewed on their website at http://www.texasmonthly.com/promotions/bestcompanies/. Further details about the Best Companies to Work for in Texas initiative can be found online at http://bestcompaniestx.com/.
