Join Us At The Austin Women In Tech Networking Event During SXSW

If there’s one thing we’re passionate for at Rackspace, it’s people.

Earlier this year, Rackspace Senior Vice President Jim Curry (aka the guy who founded OpenStack) approached me. “I want to put more qualified women into technical and leadership roles. I need your help,” he humbly explained.

Jim was inspired by a presentation from Rackers Gigi Geoffrion and Anne Gentle, who shared their thoughts on why it’s important to get more women into technical roles. The reasons for getting more women into tech go beyond issues of gender equality; research shows that diverse teams innovate better and can give companies a competitive edge.

With Gigi and Jim as our executive sponsors, a few Rackers from many disciplines – marketing, recruiting, support, HR, community affairs and development—thought it would be great to get a cross-discipline Meetup Group going. And what better way to kick off a meetup than an awesome event during SXSW?

Rackers Kim Tryce, Trisha Medina, Lacey Kite, Carla Crull, Bill Blackstone, Haley Baskin and Liz Jurewicz rounded up some fantastic Austin and Central Texas-based organizations to help cosponsor the event and plan for future meetups. Special thanks to the OpenStack Foundation, Double Line Partners, Solarwinds, and our Rackspace leaders for their commitment! Because of their support, we’ll have delicious healthy eats from Whole Foods and beverages courtesy of the talented team at The Bat Bar on 6th St. We’ll also be testing out wearable tech courtesy of Nymi as we groove to music by Austin DJ Lauren LaRose (a technical engineer) and Austin DJ Sean Anderson (a Racker).
