SCENE: We open in a meeting room, just as an interview is winding down.
Well, Mr. Smith, those are all the questions we have for you today. We really
appreciate your time. Do you have any questions for us before we wrap up?
Camera pans to INTERVIEWEE.
Wolves howl in the distance.
Tumbleweed blows through the office.
Uhh, I don’t think so.
Please don’t be Mr. Smith. Even if you spent zero time researching the company before you showed up for the interview (shame on you), you should at least be a little curious about what your day-to-day job is going to be like. This is the best (and possibly only) time for you to get a feel for how the company works. You could easily ask the interviewers what they do on a daily basis, or perhaps ask about what languages the company uses in the software that they write. Nothing says, “I don’t care about whether or not I get a job here,” better than not asking a single question of the interviewers.
