Directory Sync: Easy Active Directory Integration For Your Email

In April we launched our Directory Sync Preview and loved hearing from you about your experiences using it. We listened to the kudos and to the pain points and made some corrections. Today, Rackspace Directory Sync is available for all US and UK Email & Apps customers.

Rackspace Directory Sync is one of many continued improvements we’ll make to our Email Hosting service over the next several months. These improvements are designed to simplify email management for mid-sized and large organizations.

Who benefits from Directory Sync? If your organization has complex IT policies, a dispersed workforce, a larger number of employees and an established Active Directory, you should see immediate time savings.

Once you’re using the Rackspace Directory Sync service you can expect happy end users who now only have one password to remember for both their network and email credentials. You’ll also breathe a bit easier yourself because you can manage your users’ network and email information from a single location, Active Directory.

Already hosting email with Rackspace?  You can find the tool by navigating to your control panel and accessing the download, which you will install on your local hardware.  If you have any questions regarding Directory Sync, please reach out to your Email Support team for more information.

Can you please direct me to the download for Directory Sync? I do not find it anywhere in the Admin control panel.
Also – is there any further documentation on installation, configuration and administration, as well as user requirements and impact?

Hi Steve,

When you first login to your admin control panel, you will want to click “More…” under the Domain management section. You will then click on “Tools” in the upper red navigation bar and then you will want to click on “Directory Sync.” You should then see the download page.

Will this work with OpenLDAP sync?

Directory Sync is only Active Directory compatible at this time.

Hello Norbert,

No, Directory Sync does not work with LDAP. It can only interface with Microsoft Windows Active Directory.

Could you guys enhance the offering to support LDAP? Active Directory is cool, but so is OpenLDAP. :-)

You must have changed the rules. I can not enter using th same password I have ALWAYS used. PLease Help

Is there any issues using this tools with Windows 2008 R2 if our existing user name convention is jdoe in AD and Rackspace email address is john.doe@companyname.com?

If after using this feature, I decide to delete the Active Directory, can I keep the rackspace mailboxes with same passwords ?
