There’s an elephant in the room that most people try and skirt around when talking about Cloud Computing[1]. That elephant is security. It’s one of those big hairy problems that, maybe due to huge amounts of FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) by traditional vendors, gets blown out of proportion.
The fact is that security in the Cloud, just like security with traditional IT, is an issue that needs careful planning and adherence to standard operating procedures. Cloud doesn’t change this, all it means is that whereas under a traditional model all responsibility for security rests with the customer, in the Cloud security really is a shared responsibility between the vendor and the customer.
The latest CloudU[2] paper looks at this partnership and identifies the areas that vendors typically take care of, and those that customers have responsibly for. It’s a paper that will (hopefully) remove some of the grey areas around Cloud security so that we can counter the misinformation that exists out there.
I hope you enjoy it!
