Cloudkick[1] is up and kicking, now supporting Rackspace Cloud Servers[2]. Cloudkick is a cloud server management platform that allows consumers to utilize multiple cloud providers through one interface. We’ve mentioned Cloudkick in a previous entry demonstrating their Cloud Shift tool[3].

Before the Rackspace Cloud, Cloudkick was supporting Amazon EC2 and Slicehost only. We are now the 3rd provider to be supported on their platform.  Cloudkick was part of our private beta so they were able to work with our developers as they prepared to go live in time for our API[4] launch.

We spoke with Alex Polvi, founder of Cloudkick, to get some of his feedback on his experience working with the Rackspace Cloud API and how this launch will help his customers.

“We’ve worked with many different API’s and the main difference we saw with the Rackspace Cloud API was the consistent and clean architecture, making it easy to program against.  It was also very consistent with Rackspace Cloud Files [5]and we know Rackspace plans to keep it consistent with their other product API rollouts,  which makes it easier for adoption. This really makes our lives easier and makes it quicker for deployment  so our customers can rake in the benefits sooner.

Supporting the Rackspace Cloud is very exciting for us, and our customers, as the Rackspace Cloud was our #1 most requested addition to Cloudkick. We are even more delighted to be the first cloud management platform to support Rackspace Cloud Servers. We all know that the API is what really makes Cloud Servers a true cloud. With an API, you open up all the fun stuff, like spinning up a multitude of machines on a whim and shutting them down moments later. Most importantly, however, it give us – the consumers – another option, when deciding what cloud to build on.”

Cloudkick customers hosted on Rackspace Cloud servers now have access to Cloudkick tools, including:

•    monitoring
•    organization tools
•    a web-based terminal
•    cross-cloud features

Cloudkick plans on adding more features for Rackspace Cloud customers and we will keep you posted on their new feature rollouts.
