Cloud vs Dedicated – Important Questions to Ask Yourself

2

There are more reasons to move to the Cloud than just saving money.

You might be evaluating the Cloud due to changing business needs but you’re unsure on where to start. You’ve heard it before: The Cloud is for everyone, but not everything. While some scenarios require dedicated hardware, many legacy-dedicated environments are hosting web applications where a cloud environment is a better fit. If you’re accustomed to the technical support you’ve historically received with your dedicated servers, Rackspace actually offers Cloud Servers™ with a Managed Service Level so you don’t have to worry. And better yet, with RackConnect™, you can deploy cloud and dedicated resources in one hybrid environment.

Consider asking yourself the following questions when trying to decide which direction to go:

  1. How quickly can I have resources online?
  2. Can I upgrade the RAM, disk space and CPU?
  3. Can I achieve High Availability quickly & cost effectively?
  4. Are tools for building auto-scaling, auto-provisioning, auto-management important to you?
  5. Can I easily run cost-effective segmentation of resources?
  6. Is monitoring available?
  7. Can I get technical support?
  8. Can it address stringent security and compliance needs?
  9. Is monitoring available?
  10. Can I manage servers from my mobile device?
  11. It looks like Cloud might work for some of my applications but not all. Can I run cloud resources and dedicated resources in one environment?

I guess not a lot of people want to change to something new. People are sometimes afraid of what is new.

For ordinary people, not a lot is known about the Cloud… yet. I think this is going to change soon as demand for services increases.

Moving to the cloud is a must. There are just too many advantages compared to running a dedicated server.

I also think that the cloud is way more cost effective. Companies don’t have to hire people to maintain the server. This saves a lot of time and money.
