Cloud Founders: The Importance Of OpenStack

Why is OpenStack[1] important? Because it offers a true open alternative to locked up, proprietary cloud platforms.

According to Rackspace Cloud Founder Jonathan Bryce, open source has made waves within companies of all sizes and OpenStack is paving the way for that shift to occur in the cloud, which had previously been dominated by proprietary players who lock down their innovation and ultimately lock in customers. OpenStack is the platform upon which the Rackspace open cloud[2] is built.

OpenStack has, from the beginning, offered an open innovation platform upon which a community bands together to fuel the next wave of innovation. It is developed collaboratively by users, enterprise companies and cloud providers to offer an open alternative to proprietary models. In this video, Bryce describes why that makes OpenStack an important game-changer.
