May brings us Mother’s Day on the 11th. Dr. Benjamin Spock, President John F. Kennedy, Jim Thorpe (the world’s greatest athlete) and Frank L. Baum (author of The Wizard of Oz) were all born in May. International Museum Day is celebrated May 18; this year’s theme, chose by the museum community, is “Museum Collections Make Connections.” The first Kentucky Derby ran this month in 1875. World No Tobacco Day takes place on the 31st of May. And, in the words of Irish novelist, playwright and poet Oliver Goldsmith, “But winter lingering chills the lap of May.”

On April 10, “Encourage a Young Writer Day” is celebrated followed by “Tell a Story Day” on the 27th. And, in the words of Mark Twain, “The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.”
