Rackspace has publicly announced our affiliation with the OpenPOWER Foundation, and we are now an official member. OpenPOWER is a community dedicated to opening access to the lowest-level parts of servers: chips, buses, boards, firmware, and so forth. We anticipate that this movement will bring increased freedom and value to two other communities that we participate in: OpenStack and the Open Compute Project. We think that by working within this new community, Rackspace can deliver improved performance, value, and features for our customers.
At Rackspace, we’re immensely excited about our partnership with New Relic that helps power our DevOps Automation Service. Since announcing the partnership in early October, we’ve turned our attention maximizing the impact of Fanatical Support and Application Monitoring in solving common customer problems. In this post I’ll address one of these areas, auto scale.
I’m a recovering Product Manager who just joined Rackspace a few months ago. Until recently, Rackspace has been relatively limited in the private cloud options we offer to our customers. This has forced some of our customers to either not come to Rackspace when they wanted to experience our Fanatical Support or we forced them to change technologies. I struggle not to write something that reflects a product brief, but the reality is that I’m very excited that we have added a new service that truly responds to our customers’ demands.
Back in August, I unveiled Rackspace’s step into Microsoft virtualization and private cloud offerings. Well, today I am honored to tell you that Rackspace now supports Microsoft’s cloud platform, which includes Microsoft Hyper-V, System Center, Windows Server, and Windows Azure Pack, in all of our U.S. data centers. Additionally, Rackspace is now a member of the Microsoft Cloud OS Network.
As more organisations adopt the cloud, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that many will need to use more than one cloud, and in many cases several clouds, to serve the range of workloads they will run.
New Relic is a leader for end-to-end application performance monitoring with its deep visibility at the code, the server and the browser levels for the end user’s experience. Its SaaS offering delivers real-time performance data for your web applications in production, the ability to view metrics in a dashboard, as well as the ability to receive alerts based upon key metrics for applications and servers, so you can offer your customers high performing, stable software, even in complex application environments.

This year, we’ve doubled down on helping our partners harness the power of the Managed Cloud and Fanatical Support for their clients. We have worked to empower our partners to offer their customers Rackspace’s superior cloud infrastructure and our suite of managed services that eliminate the need for their end customers to worry about the resources and management required to do it themselves.
