Carlsberg, the Danish company that claims to brew “probably the best beer in the world”, just recently completed their Best Mate Contest, in search for a Canadian male, over the age of 21, that had “style, spirit and schmooze-ability”. The project was hosted on Cloud Sites.
Fans of Carlsberg caught on quickly and were entering themselves and nominating their friends to participate – imagine the possibilities. Over a course of a month, Carlsberg chose their phase one winners. These contestants were given a Carlsberg Fan Page on Facebook and had to build their fan base with videos, photos and context that described why they deserved to be Carlsberg’s Best Mate. The prize? A trip for four (the Best Mate and his posse) to Las Vegas.

The Ads of the World quotes:
The Best Mates did everything from putting a billboard up in Toronto’s club district, shot numerous videos, created their own ads, dyed their hair Carlsberg green, dressed in Carlsberg suits, went sky-diving with Carlsberg merchandise in-hand, baked Carlsberg cupcakes, and promoted themselves and the contest on local radio stations.
The Best Mate prize went to Wesly Watt.
Congrats to Wesley and congrats to Carlsberg for the execution of a smart and successful contest and a super sweet website. Thanks for choosing “probably the best cloud computing provider in the world” to host the site.
