Rackspace has been recognized as A Best Company to Work for in Texas, coming in at #30 in the Large Companies category. The honor comes from the Texas Association of Business (TAB), the Texas State Council of the Society for Human Resources Management (TSC-SHRM) and Best Companies group. The 2010 list names companies with best practices among Texas employers and was created to recognize the best employers in the state – the ones who make it a priority to create better workplaces for their employees.

Each day, Rackspace reaffirms its commitment to building a culture of service, one in which Rackers come to work and volunteer their best each day. Recognitions such as this confirm our mission to become the world’s greatest service company.

Racker Kathy Kersten was at the awards ceremony, held in Austin TX and had this to say, “It is exciting to see Rackspace listed as one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas. We made the list because Rackers believe that this is an awesome place to work, and that is a really cool feeling.” Kersten goes on to say, “Rackers know that our culture and company is special and it is fun to know that other Texans will recognize this distinction as well! Go Rackers!”

To read the full story on Rackspace and all companies recognized, check out the February edition of Texas Monthly.

Napier: The New Edge in Tech
By: Lanham Napier, CEO, Rackspace US

Things go wrong in computing. Anyone who uses a laptop knows that. It doesn’t matter whether the computer hardware and software you use are located in your home or office, or miles away in the data center of a hosting company that allows businesses to buy computing services cheaply by the hour, the way they buy electricity. Things go wrong either way. Why is it, then, that so many of the sellers of computer hardware and software and hosting blame their customers and hide from them whenever there’s a major service glitch?

At Rackspace, Fanatical Support extends from a Racker going above and beyond for a customer. It also applies to Rackers and how we act toward each other. How we, as a family of Rackers, take care of each other and how our leaders listen to what we want out of our work place.

On Sunday, October 11, the San Antonio Express News named Rackspace to its Top Work Places Program. This is exciting news for us! It’s an affirmation that our philosophy is still working and we are making strides. According to Top Workplaces, this survey measures factors that deal with direction of the company, the ability of the organization to execute, opportunities for career growth, caliber of managers, workplace conditions, and benefits.

Rackspace came in 7 on the large list and was ranked third overall for having excellent managers who praise good work, care and listen to Rackers.

We’d Like to Introduce the Newest Racker on the Block: Andy Schroepfer,VP of Strategy

What’s he up to @Rackspace?
Making Fanatical Support ® tangible for customers. Andy’s goal is to quicken the pace that businesses see, and act on, the reality that the future of computing is not about servers, but about service. He calls this the Road to ACE (All Cloud Enterprise), where ACE is a business that operates powerfully without servers, by leveraging the most efficient hosting platform (dedicated or cloud) for their custom apps and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) applications for the rest.

Area of expertise:
Andy has been the go-to analyst in the hosting industry since its inception in the late 1990s. This began at Piper Jaffray where he covered the fiber network service providers such as Level 3 to Global Crossing and Exodus. Then, at Goldman Sachs, he led coverage of the hosting industry including the IPOs of Equinix, Loudcloud (now HP), and Webex (now Cisco). In late 2000, Schroepfer founded, and later sold, Tier 1 Research, the leading specialist research firm on the hosting and data center industry whose insights and data remain best-of-breed.

Claims to fame:
He was the youngest Vice President at Goldman Sachs where he was a Senior Equity Analyst covering the Internet infrastructure services industry.

Why he likes being a Racker:

Twitter:
Reach Andy on Twitter: @shrepfur (which is a phonetic spelling of his last name)

Fun facts:
Andy really believes Thursday and Friday of March Madness should be a national holiday. He also thinks best in the office when he is holding a golf club, (which is strange since he has a 29 handicap).
