Yesterday, Rackspace kicked off The Open Cloud Experience at SXSW Interactive with an exclusive MVP reception at Champions Sports Bar & Restaurant in downtown Austin – our SXSW headquarters. A line of cloud enthusiasts and party-goers wrapped around the block, with the venue hitting near capacity before dusk.
We asked some of the 300 cloud enthusiasts and technologists to share their thoughts on using the Rackspace Cloud. Here’s what they had to say:
“I say [to my customers] that Rackspace is local and people like that,” said Veronica Morales, CEO of a social media and web design company called The Social Being. Morales added that she recommends the cloud to owners of small businesses who often use a single server for all of their business needs. “Small businesses especially have their whole lives invested in their business, so what’s going to happen [to the company] when their hard drive crashes? If you’re going to invest in one thing, it’s got to be the cloud.”
Steve Katz, founder and CEO of Shoptouch, a mobile shopping platform, said he appreciates that Rackspace has real people answering customer service calls instead of automated messages. “I like having access to real people,” he said, adding that Fanatical Support is what makes Rackspace stand out above other cloud providers.
Alex Ezell, a Nashville native, developed a mobile application to adjust portion sizes using a grocery delivery service. He used Rackspace after developing his online application, called Portioned, while on the StartupBus to San Antonio.
Ezell echoed Katz’s sentiment of praising Rackspace’s Fanatical Support, noting that when customers need assistance, they can feel confident that a real human will answer the Rackspace customer support line at all hours of the day.
“They don’t have to call me for tech support anymore,” he said.
