Server Backup Getting Started

Rackspace Server Backup is powered by Jungle Disk, a sister division within Rackspace. Instructions and links may direct you to the Jungle Disk Account Manager and file download pages. Improvements in integration will be made with future releases. Rackspace Server Backup as a standalone product is sold by Jungle Disk as the “Server Edition.”

To set up Rackspace Server Backup, log into the Control Panel, and perform the following steps:

  1. Mouse over the Go to section drop-down menu and select Cloud Drive and Server Backup.

Cloud drive and server backup tab highlighted.
  2. Click the Manage Cloud Drive & Server Backup link.

Manage cloud drive & server backup link highlighted.
  3. Click the Subscriptions & Purchases link.
  4. Each server account will be listed as Server Edition. You will use the associated License Key to set up the backup software on your server(s), one key per machine. You can reset the license key anytime after it has been used on a server to move the service to a different server. To reset the key, return to this page.
  5. Go to http://jungledisk.com/downloads/business/server/  and download and install two applications:

    • Server Edition Software—Install this software on the server.
    • Server Edition Management Client—Install this software on the PCs you want to use to manage the server. Note: You can install both applications on the same machine if you want to manage backups from the server.
    • Please see below for setup instructions for each program.

Server Edition on Windows

The Windows Server Edition software can be installed on any Windows PC running Windows Server 2003 or later (including 2008R1/2008R2).

After installing, you will need to enter the License Key from above. From the Start Menu select Jungle Disk Server Edition / Set License Key for Jungle Disk Server Edition.

Start menu.

Key entry window.

Once you’ve set the license key, the Server Edition service should configure itself and be ready to manage from the Management Client. If you don’t see the Server available in the Management Client, check the Windows Event Log for error information.

Server Edition on Linux

  1. Download and untar the appropriate binary for your platform and copy it to /usr/local/bin (or whichever path you prefer to run it from)
  2. Move the junglediskserver‐license.xml file to /etc/jungledisk and edit it to include your license key from above.
  3. After setting your license key, you can start the server via: sudo /usr/local/bin/junglediskserver

In future releases we will set up an rc.d entry for the service automatically, however for now you may wish to place a reference to the server path in /etc/rc.local so that it starts automatically on boot.
  4. If your server does not appear in the Management Client there may have been an error on startup. Check /var/log/junglediskserver.log for more information.

Server Edition Management Client

  1. Mouse over the Go to section drop-down menu and select Cloud Drive and Server Backup.

Cloud drive and server backup tab highlighted.
  2. Use the Admin username and Generated Password to log into the Server Edition Management Client.
