Offering Resellers Even More
We just kicked off our first ever reseller conference in Atlanta, Georgia this morning and decided to use the opportunity to announce some enhancements we have planned for our reseller program. We’ve been hard at work over the past few months to offer our resellers even more opportunities to grow their business.
Over the past year we have seen significant growth in our channel offering, nearly doubling the number of resellers in the last year and prompting us to host the first Email & Apps reseller conference this week.
That’s why we are so excited today to announce the plans for the enhancements to our reseller program, which will include:
- A New Tiered Structure with Mounting Benefits to Reward Growth
- New Training Materials
- New Marketing Resources
- More Opportunities for Recurring Revenue with Expanded Product Portfolio
More details will be found on our website over the coming weeks and via direct communications with current resellers.
Not familiar with our reseller offering? Learn more about the benefits of our offering from one of our reseller customers, Darryl Parker, CEO of Parker Web Services below. Or visit our reseller section on our website.

Spring Cleaning: Time to de-clutter your inbox
You know that Grandma who hoards everything? She probably has newspapers from a random Tuesday in 1993 just sitting around. You know those newspapers are useless; she knows they are useless, but years pass and there they sit. Why? Just in case.
The same thing happens with our inboxes. We keep our useless emails just like Grandma keeps her old newspapers. They fill our folders, they sabotage our searches and they just plain get in the way. But we keep them. Why? Just in case.
Email archiving solutions like Rackspace Archiving allow you to finally get rid of those dated emails. As emails come in, they get “journaled” or copied to an archiving portal where they remain stored and searchable for as long as you wish. This means you only keep the emails you know you’ll need and delete the rest.
Can you imagine? Searches would render 20 results instead of 150, making important emails accessible in seconds, rather than minutes. Folders would actually help you manage your emails again, rather than producing more clutter. So, cut the ties to those insignificant messages. And don’t worry; if you need them-we’ll have them. Just in case.
Our CEO is Named One of America’s 15 Most Powerful CEO’s
We don’t often publish other news stories related to our company here, but just the other day Forbes came out with their list of America’s 15 Most Powerful CEOs 40 and under. And our own CEO, Lanham Napier, (sometimes referred to as the “gutsy Texan” thanks to Fox Business for that one) was included on the list.
According to Forbes.com those included on the list had to be a CEO of one of the 15 biggest publicly traded companies in the U.S. as of February 8, 2010 defined by market capitalization and be under 40 years old.
Feel free to join us in saying congratulations to Lanham in the comments below!
Sharing Rackspace Email Calendars
If you use our Exchange Hybrid, you might not realize that Rackspace Email users can share their calendars with co-workers who use Exchange, even though they’re on different platforms. Here’s all you have to do . . .
Step One: Enable the Calendar Feed
Step Two: Add the Calendar in Outlook
The Exchange user just needs to add the Rackspace Email user’s calendar.
To view step-by-step directions, please see our support article, iCal Feeds in Outlook.
The Reseller Journey
This is a post about the growth of a company and about knowing when to invest in a partnership . . .
Over the past five and a half years, I’ve held many positions with Rackspace Email & Apps—but the reseller program has always felt like my “baby.” Looking back, we were fortunate for the success we enjoyed. Our reseller program was more “selling” than “relationship,” more “transaction” than “sales process.”
Starting last fall, this structure began to change. On one hand, it was easy to appreciate the growth of the reseller client base, and on the other it was shocking to consider the potential growth if we actually put our Fanatical resources into building a program. What started as a “revamp” soon became a “re-launch.” Resellers should be more than clients; they must be an extension of our sales force. That means early notice of new features, continuous sales training, accurate and relevant marketing material, escalated support, and an actual team standing behind them. That means that every time a reseller speaks to a potential customer, the reseller must know, beyond any doubt, that we have their back and that we’ll help them land the deal. There is no “Us” and “Them”—it’s a partnership.
While we’re well on our way with the reseller program relaunch, one vital piece is missing—face to face interaction. That’s why I’m so excited about our upcoming Reseller Conference in Atlanta March 8th – 10th. It’s filled with sales and technical discussions/training and it strengthens the relationship we continue to build with our resellers. We’re bringing our best and brightest so every question can be not only answered, but explained.
Resellers who attend will leave with increased knowledge of everything Rackspace Email & Apps offers, powerful tools to support and sell our services, and the confidence of being part of a real partnership. If you’re a current reseller or might be interested in becoming one, now is the time to invest. Now is the time to ramp up your services. Now is the time to get with the “Program.” Come see us in Atlanta and let’s see what we can do together.
Introducing Microsoft SharePoint – Free To Try For Customers
Every business has to decide on ways to solve the everyday need of collaborating with others in and outside the organization. This leads to many businesses asking — “How can we help our employees be more productive?”
We are interested in solving this problem.
We have heard loud and clear from customers that they want a better way to collaborate within their organization. Being able to share documents or files, company information, collaborating on projects, or having a central repository for your company knowledge are all top requests. At the same time customers have been asking specifically for Microsoft SharePoint as the solution of choice.
Well, we have been listening and we are proud to announce that today we are offering a hosted Microsoft SharePoint solution for customers of Rackspace Email & Apps!
If you use Rackspace Email or Hosted Microsoft Exchange you can implement SharePoint for FREE with up to 250 MB of storage to get started. Need more space? No problem! You can always upgrade and purchase additional storage as your needs grow.
You can start to learn more about SharePoint on our website or if you are a current customer you can log in to your control panel to start using it today. We are also going to be hosting some upcoming webinars to help explain some details around how SharePoint can help your business, which you can sign up for here.
As always keep the feedback coming – We are listening!
The Power of IMAP + Sync
From: Matt Pease (Rackspace customer and customer advocate sidekick!)
Twitter ID: @Dragon2611
I switched to [Rackspace Email & Apps] about a month ago. Even though I could fairly easily run my own SMTP server, I chose Rackspace since it meant I could get support if anything went wrong. Plus, I’d rather get on with what I’d rather be doing, rather than worrying about email.
Since I work across multiple computers, I always use IMAP. That way, I can still use a local email client [(e.g., Outlook, Thunderbird)] on each computer, while still keeping my email in sync. And Rackspace’s “Sync for Outlook” plugin ensures that my Calendar and Contacts get sync’d, too, without the need for expensive Exchange servers.
So, yesterday . . .
I was sitting at my home computer playing a game. I’d left Outlook running in the background to ensure that, if any email came in, I’d be alerted.
After finishing the game, I found that Outlook had crashed. After troubleshooting everything—from a simple reboot to creating a new profile—I was able to determine that the problem was, most likely, a corrupt profile. I even tried Microsoft’s PST repair tool, but Outlook still wasn’t behaving.
No worries, though. Since all of my email, calendar, and contact data is on the Rackspace server, all I needed to do was 1) create a new profile 2) set up IMAP to access my email data and 3) run the Sync for Outlook plugin (from Rackspace), using the “Recover Data” option, to download my calendar and contact data.
Thanks to IMAP and Sync for Outlook, the whole process of re-configuring Outlook took only a few minutes, whereas I could have spent hours trying to otherwise recover my locally stored mail/PST data.
What Email Looked Like in 2009 in Numbers
The folks at Pingdom.com posted some interesting stats a couple weeks ago on what the Internet looked liked in 2009 in terms of numbers. Who would have guessed that in 2009 over 90 trillion (yes, trillion) emails were sent across the Internet? Compare that to The United States Postal Service (aka snail mail) that delivered just over 200 billion total packages in 2008.
There are a lot of other interesting numbers from Pingdom on the Internet in 2009 over on their blog. For your enjoyment we decided to pull out some of the interesting stats below on Email numbers in 2009.
Thanks to Pingdom.com for the stats below.
- 90 trillion – The number of emails sent on the Internet in 2009.
- 247 billion – Average number of email messages per day.
- 1.4 billion – The number of email users worldwide.
- 100 million – New email users since the year before.
- 81% – The percentage of emails that were spam.
- 92% – Peak spam levels late in the year.
- 24% – Increase in spam since last year.
- 200 billion – The number of spam emails per day (assuming 81% are spam)
